Nuwara Eliya city and its suburbs are frequent tourist attractions. The place called Moon Plains or Sandathenna which was established in 2013 is a newly added place with elegant beauty. To get to this place, you must move along Nuwara Eliya Badulla main road parallel to Gregory Lake and at the end of the lake, a signboard with Moon plains can be seen. Having taken the left turn, we should proceed about 3 km passing the government seed potato farm.
As the track that leads to this place is muddy, sloppy, and bumpy, private vehicles are not permitted to enter the park. There is a safari jeep service that costs you Rs2000 per jeep which can facilitate eight to ten people. The jeep ride of nearly thirty minutes will be an unforgettable experience with spectacular scenes. The plain with lush green, the cold weather, and the beautiful mountains will make you feel that you are passing the road to heaven.
At the end of the journey is a place with a circular stage on concrete pillars with a staircase. You can take a 360-degree view across the whole area. Completely nine mountains can be viewed in eight different directions. They are Single tree, Piduruthalagala, Kikiliyamana, Namunukula
Hakgala, Great Western, Kirigalpoththa, Thotupala, Konical, and Singletree There is also a small game reserve that is inhabited by a few kinds of animals and 90 species of birds. The mini world’s end, the view of the city of Nuwara Eliya, and the lush green tea estates that stretch far and far add everlasting memories. The days free from the mist is the best to see this place.
